One in Three

The fight against domestic violence is an uphill battle. Throughout the US an average of 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence during their lifetime. However, within the Latinx community this number jumps to 1 in 3. In the US, 1 in 3 latina women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime.

Our women and children oftentimes face additional barriers due to institutionalized discrimination, cultural barriers, and demographic factors. Added Potential Barriers Faced by Latinx Survivors:

  • Threat and/or fear of deportation
  • Lack of language accessibility
  • Cultural insensitivity when seeking services
  • Mixed-status family unit

Who Do We Serve?

Our women and children identify as: immigrants, undocumented, refugees, homeless, mixed-status families, low-income, limited English proficient, transgender, and survivors.

Ages for survivors range from 18 – 78.

Ages for children of survivors range from newborn – 18 years old.

Almost 95% of the women we serve have children.

Approximately 50% of our survivors are experiencing homelessness.

In 2018, we served over 150 women and children.

1 in 3 Latinas are victims of domestic violence.1

By 2040, 34% of Coloradans will identify as Latinx.2

The #1 cause of death in women 44 and under is homicide. Over half of these homicides are committed by a former or current intimate partner.

Arguments preceding intimate partner homicide occur more frequently for Latinx victims.

Domestic violence incidents significantly escalate during pregnancy.

Leaving can be the most dangerous time for a survivor.
