To Our Beloved Community,
“The most powerful art is to make pain a healing talisman. A butterfly is reborn in a festival of colors.” Frida Kahlo
These past weeks, we have all been navigating unchartered territory. There are many unknowns, added stressors, and fears that we, as a community, have never had to encounter. Because of this, many of us have experienced higher levels of anxiety, depression, and at times hopelessness. We, at Latina SafeHouse, would like to remind you that you are not alone.
Latina SafeHouse has worked closely with the CDC, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and community leaders to implement best practices. In order to maximize our community’s health and well-being, our advocates are working from home. With that said, during these difficult times, we are continuing to offer services and support to survivors of domestic violence.
We understand that with a rise in self-isolation, financial hardships, and a rise in alcohol and gun sales, survivors of domestic violence are at greater risk of abuse and have fewer outlets to seek help.
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, we are working endlessly to implement our bilingual domestic violence crisis line, Tú Comunidad (Your Community), in order to assist with crisis situations and community navigation. We are also expanding our services in order to provide rental assistance, utility assistance, and behavioral health services to at-risk survivors of domestic violence.
It is our unwavering commitment to provide direct services, community navigation, and advocacy to latinx surivors.
If you have questions or would like to contact us, please call us at 303-433-4470 or email us at info@latinasafehouse.org.
We can and we will get through this as a community. One day at a time. Remember, “El pueblo unido, jamas sera vencido” “the people united will never be defeated”. If possible, please make sure to continually check-in with loved ones, neighbors, and acquaintances. Make sure to practice self-care, to value the things that bring you joy, and to take time to disconnect and in the words of Frida, to “make pain a healing talisman, a butterfly that is reborn in a festival of colors”.
Always remember, you are not alone.
En Comunidad, In Community,
Angela Ceseña
